Creanord EchoNEWS: June 2009
Welcome to the June issue of Creanord EchoNEWS. Creanord EchoNEWS aims to keep you informed of the latest developments at Creanord
and in the fields of automated Ethernet service delivery, SLA assurance and Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM).
This issue will cover a review of the Ethernet Expo Europe 2009 (EEE) including two press releases issued during the event. We also discuss about customer pilot success presented in EEE
and introduce new EchoNews Video Tutorial - EchoVault Service Creator policy. There is also a new White Paper available - Creanord Managed Ethernet Access One-Way-Delay Measurement Techniques and finally we'll
introduce Oskari, a member of the Creanord development team.
Creanord showed off at Ethernet Expo London 2009
Ethernet Expo Europe 2009 was one of its history's most successful with over 400 technology decision makers attending and nearly 50% of attendees joining from service providers.
During the show Creanord released two major EchoVault press releases which were widely noticed and covered by the media. Please click the links below to read the complete press releases.

Ethernet Expo Europe Success Stories
Creanord contributed a Success Story session - Addressing Enterprise Requirements for Ethernet Services with Dynamic QoS & Robust SLAs. The audience was filled with Service Provider
professionals and executives sharing the same interest in SLA backed Ethernet services. Session speakers highlighted how operators can deliver Ethernet-based solutions with various quality of service (QoS) and
class of service (CoS) guarantees and robust service-level agreements (SLAs) tailored for each customer's unique needs.
Our President Jorma Hmlinen was rewarded with warm welcome and our real world customer pilot presentation raised huge interest. In fact many provider representatives came to our booth
after the session to personally thank Jorma for his presentation and discuss their Managed Ethernet Access needs in more details. One reason for our presentation success was the fact that we were able to demonstrate
the value and power of our solution in real service provider environment while some other vendors were talking more about their future plans and market trends.
Background and solution for the pilot
For enterprises SLAs and service guarantees are a critical part of carrier grade Ethernet. Without clear SLAs enterprises are not willing to transfer their business critical networks into Ethernet.
Furthermore a link or trunk based SLAs are inadequate. SLAs must be verified End to End.
Foundation for the pilot was well established since the EchoVault's topology aware SLA-Meter was designed from the day one to deliver customer specific End to End SLAs per customer VLAN/CoS. At the same
time our enhanced Traffic-Meter was targeting to provide one-second accurate bandwidth utilisation stats from the same VLAN/CoS.
Our goal was to create a competitive advantage and unique opportunity to Service Provider for up-selling bandwidth. For the End Customer we wanted to introduce a comprehensive tool for SLA and bandwidth monitoring.
To succeed we just needed to prove all the above in live customer environment.
The customer pilot presented in Ethernet Expo Europe 2009
The pilot started already early this year. Careful lab testing and planning was conducted together with the Service Provider partner before first SLA and Traffic measurements saw the
daylight. We collected results for several months and after that made careful analysis of the data. Special effort was invested in presenting the daily and monthly exceptions as well as the
summary analysis. Pilot customer feedback was valuable for fine-tuning the visualisation and also encouraging as end the customer found many use cases for the reports from improved internal
accounting to identifying bottlenecks before compromising the end user experience. These findings and concepts developed during the pilot will now be realized in the EchoVault Total introducing
the new AEDS Suite, so stay tuned for our most significant release to the date.
EchoNews Video Tutorial - EchoVault Service Creator policy
The tutorial will cover a new feature of Creanord EchoVault 3.3 called Service Creator. It allows Standardized Service Catalog driven provisioning of complete Ethernet Service with just few mouse clicks quickly
turning up as many sites as needed. Not to mention the Traffic-Meter per-second bandwidth monitoring!
New White Paper Creanord Managed Ethernet Access One-Way-Delay Measurement Techniques
The new white paper highlights key aspects affecting quality and performance of One-Way-Delay and Delay Variation measurements, from hardware design to the time synchronization implementation.
