Creanord EchoNEWS

Welcome to April 2011 issue of Creanord EchoNEWS. EchoNEWS aims to keep you informed of developments at Creanord and in the fields of SLA assurance, automated Ethernet service delivery and OAM (Operations, Administration and Maintenance).

In this issue we look at how Creanord EchoVault can deliver improved Quality of Experience for MPLS core and Business Access SLA through efficient monitoring combined with appropriate management capabilities.

Managed MPLS Core Network

MPLS networks allow service providers to switch voice, video and data and supply the transmission capacity needed to ensure efficient operation for today's data-hungry applications. However, MPLS Core networks also pose challenges, particularly in the areas of management and monitoring. This is due to the different class of service prioritizations that are introduced. EchoVault provides a solution with which you not only can efficiently monitor the quality of the network but also effectively manage it to optimise network utilization and also at the same time enhance customer experience.

Creanord EchoVault delivers improved Quality of Experience through efficient monitoring combined with appropriate management capabilities - enabling granular testing, proactive problem detection and fast resolution as well as powerful fault aggregation. More responsive and predictive network monitoring and management means a smooth end-customer user experience. The Web-based Customer Portal with Interactive and dynamic reports and dashboards illustrate quality and state of mission critical circuits.

EchoVault performs extensive analysis and provides information to support operative and business decision-making. For instance, you can view circuits which are close to breaching SLAs so you can start corrective actions proactively. This functionality also helps prioritising problems to be fixed if multiple problems arise at the same time.

Highly accurate one-way delay measurements are reality with MetroNIDs with GPS, providing Stratum-1 level wall-clock timing for core measurements. MetroNODE units provides high OAM measurement capacity and 10 Gbps speed. End-to-End L2/L3 Business Access for mission critical services completes the picture and provides superb Customer Experience for High-ARPU customers.

Business Access SLA

With business applications such as ERP, VoIP, Video and Cloud Computing placing ever more rigorous yet varying requirements on network functionality, the challenge of providing appropriate services with appropriate SLAs at a competitive price is not insignificant. Some applications need continual high bandwidth, others are sensitive to packet loss and yet others demand low delay and jitter. For bandwidth monitoring, 5 minute averages are no longer enough. Customers are demanding per-second SLAs to see if micro-bursts affecting their applications have occurred. Each customer's requirements vary along with the mix of business-critical applications used adding further complexity.

Creanord EchoVault addresses key challenges facing the carrier in MPLS Core monitoring and L2/L3 Ethernet Business Access deployment:

  1. Extending the 'best effort' provided by Ethernet to the same level as e.g. PDH, SDH and ATM in terms of service consistency
  2. Monitoring and management bringing enforceable QoS and performance guarantees
  3. Measurable and enforceable SLAs

The solution provides the capability to simultaneously improve utilization, reduce the cost of service delivery and incite customers to move for more attractive and more profitable service offering.
