SDN/NFV Essentials: Exploiting Virtual Appliances with vProbe

Network functions virtualization (NFV) is quickly emerging as a cost-efficient way to manage network services. Combined with software defined networking (SDN) for centralized control of the network, there is a promise of more automation to help speed up service development and delivery and revenue growth.

According to a recent report by Analysys Mason, virtual probes will emerge as a vital service assurance component for NFV and SDN Networks. CreaNODE vProbe provides accurate and scalable monitoring when moving from dedicated appliances to more standardized hardware running virtualized applications. Thus, you could buy a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Intel server and run several applications, such as firewall, NAT and many others in addition to the vProbe on this single platform. According to some estimates, up to 60% of the expected savings from NFV could come from the reduced logistics hassle for the equipment. Because it allows for easier deployment and management as well as dramatically reduced infrastructure investment, the case for NFV and the vProbe becomes compelling.
